Remembering the best of London
Westminster on a rare sunny day in May
St Paul's Churchyard
Tower Bridge
Was in London for 2 weeks for work but still managed to squeeze in some sight-seeing in the capital of the UK.
Here are some of my must-see and must-dos in London:
For the Museum buffs:
- The National Gallery: Allocate 2++hours for van Eyck, Michelangelo, Veronese, Caravaggio, Vermeer, Rembrandt, Monet, Van Gogh etc. Exit 7 from Trafalgar Square station to St Martins in the Field
- The National Portrait Gallery: Home to famous British personalities through the ages
- Victoria and Albert Museum: Home to an amazing collection of art, relics, gold and silverware. Free Entry
- Guildhall Art Gallery: Small gallery that is home to mainly portraits and religious work. Check timings for free entry
- Other museums include the Tate Britain and the Tate Modern
- St Paul's Cathedral: Note service times and do take the effort to walk around the underground crypt and climb up to the Whispering, Stone and Golden Gallery for a panoramic view of London. Free audio aid. Entry: 15 pounds
- Westminster Abbey: Note service and opening hours. Free audio aid. Entry: 16 pounds
- House of Parliament and Big Ben: a visit to London is not complete without a picture of Big Ben
- Tower of London: More than half a day needed to walk the entire tower and its exterior. Check out the crown jewels here and the Tower Bridge. Entry: 20.99 pounds
Shopping:
- Piccadilly Circus for its wide array of tourist knick-knacks
- Selfridges at Bond Street
- Oxford Street: Zara, Primark etc
- Knightsbridge Harrods: the food hall is a MUST
